Many thanks to all who responded (even lotsa code!) to my
request. There were several that will do the job. The Crypt modules seem like
overkill since I don't need heavy encryption. The passwords are for
production boxes that will use a single sftp password for all users. Simple obfuscation
should do the job. Howard's algorithm is simple and fits nicely with the
existing code so a little plagiarism may be in order here (thanks, Howard). And,
