That is a sound answer.

If, however, you do actually want to implement that within your program,
then you can create a file handle that does much the same thing. See
'perldoc -f open' and 'perldoc perlopentut' for info on piping to
external processes.

BTW, it is not PERL. Strictly speaking, Perl refers to the language,
while perl refers to the implementation, but either of those will
probably do as long as it isn't PERL.
