Gurus,

Currently I'm using

        system( "crontab -u root $root_file" );

where $root_file contains the updates for the root crontab file. What I'm
asking today is whether there's another way of running this command in such
a way that I can get a pass/fail result into my script. I know eval{} is
somewhat frowned upon, so I wonder what might work for me here... maybe
something as simple as

        $result = `crontab -u root "$root_file"`;

might do it? Or doesn't crontab work inside backticks. (If you get bitten
by backticks, does that make the itch go away?)

Thanks,
