I would probably say that it is because there are spaces in the file
path. You should wherever possible avoid paths with spaces or double
quote the string (if
Since you have swapped the windows dir separater '\' to '/' you should
be able to double quote your string:
"C:/Documents and Settings/$username/Local Settings/Temp/*.xls"
