Yeah, getting root dns server's is still an art. If windows doesn't have them in the registry, or posix only has "search domain" entries, you'll need a list of root servers, and ask them for the name server that deal's with your host name, and they'll re-direct you down the tree. When you get there, ask that server if it'll redirect for you. If it does then that's your primary DNS :)
