I overrode the template and changed the cancel's link line from
<%= link_to as_('Cancel'), params_for(:action => 'list'), :class =>
'cancel' %>
to
<%= link_to as_('Cancel'), :action => 'cancel', :class => 'cancel'
%>
which calls my class's cancel function
all is well...
