Hi Rachel,

Our student handbook and catalog are available separately online; however, the
catalog does include the handbook. Moving to online was a decision made to
support sustainability (be greener) and - let's be honest - it saves a Ton of
Money!

I believe a very limited number of catalogues are still printed for hard copy
availability in the advising centers.

One of my challenges since assuming policy responsibility continues to be
encouraging all departments & divisions to anchor any policy or policy
references to the (most current) online policy "manual".

Subject: [acupa-l] College Catalog verses Student Handbook publications

Good Morning,

We used to have a separate college catalog and student handbook. They contained
the same information except the student handbook didn't contain the course
descriptions or programs of study. Two years ago, we decided to eliminate the
student handbook and only have a college catalog. Currently our college catalog
consists of all student and campus-related policies, as well as course
descriptions and programs of study. Obviously, our printed catalog is very
large and we only print hardcopies very rarely, as needed. We have since found
out that our accreditating agency (SACS) requires us to have a student
handbook. Our SVP of Student Services does not want to have two large documents
that contain all of the same information (minus course descriptions and
programs of study), but we need to produce something to be in compliance. It
doesn't seem like just producing something with the student's rights would be
enough to qualify as a student handbook.

Could you please tell me what your institution is doing in regards to a college
catalog and student handbook. Please include if you produce both (electronic
only or hardcopy also) and if so what subjects are included in each.

Thank you in advance!
Rachel
