We have a lost and found policy that incorporates and links to WA state regulations regarding the disposition of unclaimed valuables and money, and also includes procedures for disposition of unclaimed nonvaluables and nonmonetary items. You may view this policy at: http://public.wsu.edu/~forms/HTML/BPPM/50_Safety_and_Security/50.48_Lost_and_Found.htm
Hope this helps -- Deb Bartlett Administrative Regulations Analyst Office of Procedures, Records, and Forms Washington State University Pullman, WA 99164-1225 509-335-2005 From: <Meder>, Debbie <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> Reply-To: Institutional policy-related discussions <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> Date: Friday, July 25, 2014 6:56 AM To: "[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>" <[email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>> Subject: [acupa-l] Lost and Found Policies This is my first posting to this list serve and I’d like to see if anyone has a policy related to the handling of Lost and Found items. At Penn State, we are struggling with a few issues – trying to make our policy workable but also having some accountability. We have had a policy in place, but are now revising, and trying to find a policy that will make compliance easier. If you do have a policy, would really appreciate getting a copy. We are especially interested in how you manage finder claims (returning the item to the finder if no rightful owner claims the item), if you limit the ability for employees to claim finder rights, and, if you transfer items to a salvage and surplus unit for handling, what accountability tracking you use related to valuable items like jewelry or electronics. We considered just making our policy “finders keepers, losers weepers” : ) Thanks for any information! Debbie ______________________________________________________________________________ Deborah M.
