John: UND is similar to Cornell; however, rather than having only central IT responsible for updates, office managers are given administrative rights and can allow software updates on employee computers as necessary.

In addition, staff computers are "locked down," so no application can be downloaded or upgraded without central IT authorization through a central "software update center." Updates are pushed out from our central IT service group. Currently, we do not allow Administrative Access but allow a few exceptions. I am interested in finding out about relevant policies at other institutions. I am especially interested in policies that specifically allow Administrative Access for faculty. Thank you. - John John R.
