Good Morning,
Attached is our policy on probation.

Unsatisfactory Performance/Probationary Status

Any employee may be placed on probationary employment status by the president
of the college, or a designee, based on the recommendation of the employee's
supervisor. Employees may be placed on probationary employment status upon
receiving an unsatisfactory performance appraisal, or for other conditions,
acts, behaviors, attitudes, or causes not associated with performance appraisal.

Probationary employment status will last for 30 to 90 days, at the discretion
of the president or designee. At the end of each 30-day period, the employee's
immediate supervisor must conduct a performance appraisal and may request
termination of the employment contract. Employees placed on probationary
employment status must sign a probationary contract.

At the end of the full probationary period, based on the recommendation of the
employee's supervisor, the president or designee, may remove or extend
probationary status, allow the employee to resign, or terminate the employee's
contract.

Procedures for Placing an Employee on Probation
The supervisor must first submit a memo (through the appropriate chain of
command) documenting the reasons for requesting probationary status.

Supervisors are strongly encouraged to use the Performance Improvement Plan
(PIP) process before automatically placing an employee on probation. The PIP
process involves four steps: coaching, written warning, probation, termination.
(The college recognizes that a PIP may not be appropriate in all cases and that
some actions may warrant immediate dismissal). Supervisors should consult Human
Resources for more information.
