Amy, While I haven't heard of issues of indoor use, these have become very prominent with our athletes. I could see use in buildings being a safety hazard, not unlike skateboards, which we don't allow indoors.

Students and others don't (yet) use these vehicles in Ithaca. Here is a link<https://urldefense.proofpoint.com/v2/url?u=https-3A__www.google.com_search-3Fq-3Dmotorized-2C-26-2343-3Bself-2Dbalancing-26-2343-3Bscooters-26source-3Dlnms-26tbm-3Disch-26sa-3DX-26ved-3D0CAkQ-5FAUoA2oVChMIwIfB6fWNyAIVyBeSCh2YUQ-5Fc-26biw-3D1429-26bih-3D1035-26dpr-3D0.9&d=BQMFAg&c=y2w-uYmhgFWijp_IQN0DhA&r=FbxNVDpb0dMHqW5PgsfqtA&m=O-ZilRNuQK0GqivCPnrWE6ik_T61FLFB-YE0QPasEOQ&s=ocAxRCaf_b6DZwRNh3o16yX0kfCzBuXct2qy3iLCY1s&e=> to a few images in case you are not familiar with these. While these are permissible on sidewalks, my office has started receiving complaints from building occupants about students racing around on these devices indoors causing distress, accidents and physical damage to property. We are considering whether we need to policy to prohibit the use of these devices indoors. We would carve out exemptions for public safety officers, who use Segways, and for those using such devices as a result of a physical disability. If this is something your campus has encountered, how have you handled it? As always, enforcement will be an issue and I would welcome any tips on how such a policy can be enforced. Thank you!
