Hi Jen, I'd love to be able to provide you a sample policy, unfortunately the University of Miami is currently going through a re-definition of IBS. That said, institutional base salary truly is one of those areas that each institution has to carefully evaluate and determine for itself. If your faculty are unionized, as one of my prior institutions was, then the IBS may be determined by the faculty contract. At one institution, administrative duties for 12 month appointments, such as a Dean were considered part of IBS, whereas at my previous school those duties were paid via a stipend on top of their faculty appointments, which was what we considered their IBS. Every school defines it a little differently, and that of course has an impact on your effort reporting and cost sharing. At Miami we are having all those discussions as it becomes even more complex when you add clinical practice duties to the mix.
