Meredith:

Way back in 2006 when we implemented our "no relationships between direct
reports" which included faculty teaching students, we socialized it widely for
about a year. We did focus groups with faculty, department chairs, met with
any group that would have us, and shared research of the effect of the
so-called "consensual" relationships widely. Although it is 10 years old, our
report<https://hr.osu.edu/public/documents/policy/resources/115report.pdf> is
still up and it cites the research (pp. 18-19). Some departments went further
and said "no relationships with undergrads." We got pushback from a few very
vocal faculty, but we presented it as a conflict of interest and that was hard
to argue with.
