Agreed, only that if a WINS server is being used by the particular
clients, they'll query against WINS instead of the subnet master or
domain master browsers. While I discourage WINS, it does make life a
little simpler.

This might be related to subnet browser and master browser. Not sure
if you can stop it.

If you've got a WINS server entry in your DHCP scopes, you should be
able to manually go into the WINS listings on the Wins servers and
delete the objects. I think if you simply delete/tombstone, they may
live for a while in the listings, so maybe delete manually, don't
replicate, and do it on each WINS server.

To prevent it, that'd be tricky. Maybe something along the lines of
having DHCP set the node type on foreign systems to not broadcast, but
even then, when a Windows box wants to broadcast, there's no stopping
it. You'd have to figure out how to prevent the WINS record from
being created, I can't think of a way.

I am in an environment that a lot of contractors come in to access the
internet. They don't log into the network. As a resut their, domain or
workgroup shows up in the my network places, entire network, microsoft
windows network area. It is confusing and annoying to the end users.
Is there a way to disable that so It doesn't show up? If that is the
case is there a way to delete it off of the network after the fact?
