At the AGM Stella reported on the establishment of loan equipment with the Physics Room, equipment left over from the ISEA Singapore project. This struck me as an extremely practical way to support digital art and addressed the most common problem I have faced in pitching projects around Aotearoa. The galleries simply lack the gear and it then falls on the artists to try and supply it. If I was a money-person at CNZ I would want to avoid institutional replication and I would support mechanisms for support which exploited existing structures. We have an amazing network of regional galleries which could secure, maintain and administer gear. A model for how this could work has already been 'blue-printed' by Stella and Su. If this happened in strategic regions; administered by existing organisations, but driven by artists proposals as in the ADA model.... The trick of course would be to protect the idea from institutional ring fencing. Any lawyers on board....?
