Sorry Crystal I've only just seen this email. Yes these are Evarcha falcata. It's pretty scarce in Sussex outside of the west sussex heathlands where it is common. I don't think it's under recorded in our area as I've been sweeping and beating pretty much every patch of vegetation in the area over the last 15+ years looking for this species. It is just scarce and difficult to find probably due to low population. You seem to be a scarce invertebrate magnet this year!
If there are no records on the NBN gateway it doesn't necessarily mean it hasn't been recorded. The BAS are very strict about what records go on the NBN gateway. They don't accept records from anyone who isn't a known experienced arachnologist or have been checked by a SRS Area Organiser such as myself. Unfortunately there are only a very small number of spiders that can be * accurately* identified from photographs, it's usually just an educated guess when identifying spiders in photographs. Evarcha falcata are an exception, they are very distinctive. And if I havn't already said so this is a very interesting record.
