You should have moved to Welland. Housing is cheaper there. But the cost of living in Southern Ontario is unreal. My parents moved bay there and got a 16,000 dollar raise in the process and they are finding that not enough. Even with the higher house costs in Calgary, the cost of living is substantially less. Maybe it's that extra 8% you guys in Ontario pay..... Seriously, you actually tried to run an open source business in a bedroom community like St. Catharines? I have had fleeting thoughts of opening a business in the Niagara Peninsula but alas finding qualified employees locally might be tough. There isn't even a Linux users group south of Hamilton that I know of other than the one in Niagara Falls / Buffalo New York. And I have to charge PST to businesses in Ontario. What type of internet connectivity options did you have? I know bell sympatico (or subcontracted access) is basically the only game in town right? (Yuck paying more to use PPPoE). My parents were paying almost as much as me for internet access with their home DSL account. I have a business account with 8 static IPs......
