Do these clips play properly in Quick Time Player? If so, you can upgrade 
to QT Pro for very little money and convert within it. It's a handy tool to 
have for various conversions, and I have used it to convert downloaded 
background clips, which often seem to be in the .mov format. Mind you, if I 
recall correctly TMPGEnc will also do these conversions.
