Thanks for your reply! I heard from Taky who also suggested rendering. I did this and also tried changing the size and format of the photo. So far nothing has worked. Just for kicks, I went ahead and exported my whole project as a movie. When it got to the gradient wipe, I could see both the wipe and the picture during the transition. The picture sort of vibrated as the gradient wipe passed through it. I must be doing something wrong...just can't get a handle on it.
