Isaac, if I understand what you're trying to do, it would take me all of three minutes to do it. Use the work area to export only the last few seconds of the composited area. Bring it back, put it on top of what's there. Delete what you made it from and put it in the place of what's gone. Move that to a transition friendly track and you're done.
