Thanks for your help. I checked the compatible cards and mine is not on it - it has USB support only. I have my VCR plugged into the Plextor ConvertX which is then plugged into my PC via USB. I've tried capturing videos (I'm new at this) and and it does a great job. I have to see how to dump the files to AVI format (if it isn't already doing this) using the software I have (Roxio 6 and 7 and Intervideo). I was planning on using Adobe to clean up some of our old family videos. ---Murray, Try going to GOOGLE and looking for a FREE utility called VIRTUAL DUB. It's another learning curve yes, but Vdub will allow you to convert your MPEG files to DV-AVI if I am not mistaken. Sure you will lose a little quality in the conversion but it will allow you to do your editing in Premiere once you generate the files in ther proper format. If it was me, I would opt for the miniDV pass through conversion. Remember that this also works on a lot of the Digital8 camcorders from Sony as well. Both miniDV and Digital8 are "DVC25" format and only the tape size and speed are the basic differences. It's stil the same signal being recorded to tape however and many D8 camcorders have the pass through feature if that is what you have instead of miniDV. The quality of the digitized video from the camcorder going into the firewire card will be better than anything you convert FROM MPEG, so this is your best bet and if the picture quality of those old family vids is sorta crummy you will want to retain as much as possible.
