The original post was about doing a batch convert of avi files to mpeg. Perhaps the poster may want to make 1000 DVD's or VCD's but it certainly is not an obvious request. I merely offered some info on how they could simplify matters "IF" they wanted to make a DVD. In any event thanks for sharing your expertise with us.

And the quality is not so much different. I also find the for streaming video on webpage, I get better quality with Mpeg, than with WM. So Mpeg1 is here. And there is Mpeg4 to consider, not to mention more advanced alternatives... Vera David Hurdon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: Actually Vera, for VCD you need MPEG-1 and for DVD, MPEG-2. They are completely different compression schemes. MPEG-1 has been around for ten years or more and is today inferior in quality versus data rate to all the major competition. MPEG-1 does have its uses, and VCD is one of them, in part because it's a PC/MAC compatible format. DVD IS more expensive, in media and production tools, but not nearly as much different as a couple of years ago when burners were still fairly expensive. My original burner, a Pioneer A03, was five times the price of its modern version and blank DVD-R media was about the same versus today. If you want to convert them to mpeg so they can go on dvd, which is just a guess, you may want the dvd authoring program to do that for you. At this point I haven't found a way of sending any mpeg I make to any of the authoring programs I have without them then re encoding them for dvd...I am hoping there are ways to do this and avoid that but for now I edit in avi and then have the dvd authoring program do the encoding as it makes a disc. I would appreciate and smarter faster ways any one has... Mike S --------------------------------- Yahoo!
