Adobe site lists your camera as compatible:

Also, I believe there is a generic setting in Premiere that as long as 
you have a fire-wire camera connection there should be no problem if you 
can't find your camera in the Adobe list.

In regards to training, I have found that Total Training makes some of 
the best, if not the best, training available.  They have the previous 
version of Premiere Pro (1.0) training on sale at $89.99 - 
http://www.totaltraining.com/prod/specials.asp?mscsid=

There is free training available on the web - but if you really need to 
get going - I recommend the above Total Training package - many hours of 
DVD training.  The version on sale is very close to the latest version - 
it should be more than sufficient to get you going.
