Stuart's suggestion is a good one, since to my recollection selecting Print to Video will force a render if any part of the timeline requires it. And that may be your problem. In the "old" days, two or three years ago, PCs didn't have the horsepower to play a timeline without rendering, unless you had some hardware assistance. Today's processors with lots of RAM to lean on can often do so with relatively lightly composited material, but won't play DV out unless it's rendered (or has hardware support). It's easy to forget the render when everything you play on the monitor looks fine.
