quality on the panasonic near that of the GL2? How about at night? We don't
do events, we shoot truck shows. Brightly painted, multi-hued cars. I like
the GLs for the features, but this may be a great option for my freelance
coverage guys (pickup shots). We also get a lot of night stuff, parties,
cruising, hanging out of windows at 70MPH...Would it hold up the way my
Canons do?

Brad,
One of the things that cheap cameras with small, single chips, are not good
at is low-light performance. If you are looking for good performance in the
night situations you describe then you would need to be looking at a Sony
VX2000 or 2100. The former are available second-hand. These cameras beat the
Panasonics and Canons on low-light performance. However, even the Sonys need
a reasonable amount of light to produce acceptable pictures. You need
something with one-third-inch chips.
I realise that this is hardly the 'cheap deck' that you asked for but I am
afraid you have two conflicting requirements.
