----Years and years ago, when Premiere was in its development stages I saw a
"box"....dont ask me what it was or who made it...I was in a colleague's
edit bay, and he pointed it out saying that it was an adapter that took the
FireWire protocol and converted it to RS-422. Now I am wishing I knew more
about it, but I swear that I was not being gaslighted.

RS-422 controls are common as hell in tape based edit systems, so I was not
the least bit surprised to see something like this. In fact I was surprised
when I saw my first NLE that did NOT have any RS-422. I guess that proves
that I am a recovering tape dinosaur. My question for the original poster
is...how critical a level of control do you need....if it's just to get an
export onto tape you can certainly do a "crash edit" and roll into record
with a pre-blacked tape as a V-A12 insert edit from the front panel controls
on the deck.
