well the other 2 sites i listed, though you have to register, have
forums. on the cinematography.net you'll find archived and current
messages full of lighting ideas. as for using certain equipment, if
you post on their forum you'll get answers. this is more of an
editing forum. out of the 3000+ members how many do you think know
lighting? now on those 2 cinematography sites, it's a near 100%
knowledge of lighting because that's what cinematographers do - work
with light in capturing an image. i don't want to make it sound like
you're in the wrong place, but out of the few people here that do
weddings...over on the cinematography sites you'd be asking 100% of
the group who know lighting and i mean they know lighting. the only
other place that might know more is a "gaffer" forum. :-)

this i will share from my own experience though. "work lights" are
great. plus they are inexpensive. however they do get hot and have a
yellow cast. you'd get a 500 watt light anywhere from $10 to $30. now
to lessen the yellow cast, you can hang either wax paper, butcher
paper or even buy Gels to make whatever color you want. other than
that i've built some lighting set-ups and installed "daylight" bulbs.
love those things...if you haven't used them what are you waiting for
the light is great. but if you want to get the big boys toys then
check those sites, but before you buy a lot of stuff. plan. know how
much light you need. what kind of color? how much shadow? how hard or
soft is the light? what's the placement? because 1K lights and small
children do not mix.

> Thanks for the reply. I do frequent B&H's site quite often and
have studied their selection of lights. They have plenty to pick
from and many seem to be reasonably priced. I just don't have a clue
which one would be appropriate for what I do, which is occasionally
shoot receptions and weddings where there is not adequate lighting.
I'm hopeful someone out there does similar work and has a specific
model that they can recommend.

the group. I try to chime in and help others when I can but I have
to admit that I've gotten much more out of the forum than I have been
able to put into it.
