Thanks so much for the reply. I'm all for lots of keyframes, particularly if someone/something else does it for me.
Checked Creative Cow (thanks for the tip) but nothing on the ramp effect. I've managed to get an acceptable result for now. Even a monkey with a keyboard gets lucky.
