Hi Chuck,

I think that currently DivX is the best format for online streaming. 
www.divx.com has a free trial of their encoder, for both Windows and Apple.

If you are on the Apple, try ffmpegx, you can download it for free from the 
Apple site. It compresses to any format you can think of, including 
Quicktime and DivX.

I think that at this time, Quicktime doesn't compare to DivX. I 
experimented with Quicktime and DivX and ffmpegx and concluded that DivX 
movies created in ffmpegx are the best. But Apple is about the lauch the 
H264 compression for Quicktime which promises to be as good, if not better, 
than the DivX codec.
