Is there a good way in Adobe Premiere 6.5 to enhance the look of Hi-8
<<video so that the image will look sharper and also a way to make the
colors look a bit richer??? I am editing together some footage from a
mini DV cam and a Hi-8 cam and the Hi-8 footage looks a bit washed out
compared to the Mini DV. Is there anything I can do???>>
----I used to run across this an awful lot in the old tape days, even while
everyone was shouting Hi-8's praises as a "pro" format (ugggh!).
I was constantly having to mix Hi-8 with BetaCam, 3/4, 1-inch "C" and SVHS,
and it was a stretch even matching it to the 3/4.
I typically got better results on the ingest side and this can apply to
nonlinear.
If you have the opportunity to re-do the analog capture try using some color
correction during capture and you will get better and QUICKER results.
With Premiere you will be invoking a very good set of color correction tools
which are located right next to the TRANSITIONS folder.
The trouble is, they will rack up significant amounts of time in the render
and export process while color correct during ingest is immediate or real
time. Also you can play your miniDV alongside and do some pretty good
matchframing.
I get this luxury by placing a good proc amp between the output of the Hi-8
and the analog to digital converter.
