this is a glitch i have also encountered
i just find another way to brighten the clip
i don't use the filter anymore

Hi folks.
Everytime I apply the Highlights/Shadow effect to a clip in PP1.5. It
won't fully render. When I press <Enter>, it begins to render, then at
some point stops and 'red' remains above the clip, indicating that the
clip still needs to be rendered.
Any ideas?
