Group,
I rarely contribute but here is my take addressing harde-drives.
The removable internal trays have small fans installed with them.
Using them and perhaps an extra fan would solve the heating problem.
I have about 6 back-up hard-drives 120G each to store my projects, all
almost instantly accessible should I need to revise or do extra work or
upgrade some projects.
Generally speaking, I believe removeable hard-drives are the best thing
since sliced bread.
I also have about 6 boot drives built (at times more), using 3 OSs,
different criteria, and should I crash (and I have thru virus) I am back up
and running within 2 minutes !! I just substitute another drive, get my info
on my removeable back-up drive.
Having removeable drives also allows me to customize each boot drive for
different purposes, one is a regular daily computer, one is for my website
work and one for my video work. I swap boot drives a number of times a day
as necessary and I am always running with an optimized machine.
Then I build a new boot drive from a crashed one when I have spare time,
takes me about 5 to 6 hours, but without loss of info or productivity. I
only use 10 or 20G drives for boot drives, cheap as dirt and speed is not an
issue. The back-up or data drives are the fast expensive ones.
