1. I took a "movie" using a Casio EX-P505 camera that takes 30fps
movies using mpeg4 and wraps them in avi files.
2. The avi file was loaded onto a PC to edit out some junk.
3. When importing into Adobe Premiere Pro 1.5, an error message
popped up saying unrecognisable format (4CC is M4S2, which works
with WMP but not by Premiere Pro).
4. Therefore I read the cameras avi file into "Xilisoft AVI MPEG
Converter" and let it write it back out in its mpg format.
input cameras avi file: 7,004 MB.
output Xilisoft's mpg file: 3,162 KB.
5. Then the Xilisoft mpg file was imported into Premiere, which now
accepted it.
6. An edit was performed, and the edited results exported to
a "movie". That function worked, but Premiere Pro's output avi file
size is 22,968 KB.

What is the explanation as to why the file size increased from 3 to
22 meg's?

Thanks ...

Lee
