Yes using PPro1.5 I did unlink the old file and then
re-linked to the new file, renamed the clip with the
new name in the project window and on the timeline.

It was after I went thru all of this that I thought
that maybe PPro could-kind-of/could-do the
swap/replace like AE...I guess not. Hey it's still
easy enough to do just not as elegant as AE would.

Again thanks for the feedback.
