I think MyDVD will accept the AVI and do the conversion for you. It wouldn't be my first choice but it might get the job done. I use MyDVD 5.* with Premiere 6.5 and the Procoder Express MPEG-2 exporter plug in, but I'm pretty sure my original version of MyDVD would work straight from the AVI. It will take a while to convert. TMPGenc is probably still a great choice, but I'm not sure the MPEG-2 encoder is still free for 30 days, as it was a fair while back. If you think making your own DVDs will be a regular thing, I'd either research how to make Pro work, which it must, or buy Procoder Express. It makes a lovely MPEG-2 file, compared, for example to the old Main Concept encoder that plugged into 6.5. I think Pro uses Main Concept as well but the version would be newer and perhaps improved.
David Hurdon PS However you export your MPEG-2, creating separate audio and video files (demuxed) will make MyDVD MUCH happier than a single program stream. You're looking to make an m2v and an m2a. When you import the m2v into MyDVD it will find the matching audio file on its own. I have been able to convert the completed project to an AVI file, but everytime that I convert (using the export option) to an MPEG file, I get this error after awhile: "APP failed to return a video frame. Cancelling the operation." Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong or if I maybe have some settings wrong. I have a fairly nice and stable system... P4 / 3GHz 1Gig Ram Matrox Card Windows XP w/ Service Pak 2 All other aspects of my editing seem to work well so far but not only does it not create the MPEG file, the program then halts and I have to close out of it and launch it again. Fortunately Sonic allowed me to use the AVI file to create the DVD but I would really like to figure out why I can't create the MPEG file. Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.
