You're very welcome. I think it's a great idea. Hopefully this seed money
will help the site grow and grow. Glad that server size isn't a problem.
Have you considered "dvswap.com?" It's short, sweet, and is available.

Does your current isp allow you to install a sql forum? (like "simple
machines") I imagine a sot of classified / want-ad forum would be very
applicable.

In addition, so you don't have to convert and store all of the files, I (or
someone else) could develop a cgi-javascript submission page, where people
can categorize their video, give keywords, give duration, camera model, clip
format, etc. As well as accept a copyright notice.

While at it-- I suppose you could either have someone upload their own wmv
file, or point to an off-site location. Just brainstorming here, of course.

Hey Jeff,

Thank you for much for your generous donations. with that $38 dollar I have
so far, I can start register a domain name and a decent web hosting.

Of course it would be no problem for you to reference the site to your book.
Such an honor.

I don't know how to handle copyright material. If someone has some
disclaimer I can use, please send it over.

What I am doing now is, hosting the site in my personal web site. For all
the full DV-AVI video clips, I have it point to my server running at home
in that case I don't have to worry about storage size and bandwidth
capacity. But with your generous donation, I will go register a domain name
and have it's own web host.

Thanks

Taky

Great start, Taky! I donated $35. Hopefully others will follow suit. In
addition, I'd like to reference the site in my "resources" section of my
next Premiere Pro book--if that's okay with you.

As far as copyrighted video-- I would expect a legal disclaimer--somewhat
like Ebay uses--that the person submitting the video is fully responsible
for its content. In addition, I wouldn't allow any anonymous submissions.

Taky-- what's your server a.) hosting size, and b.) monthly bandwidth. I
expect with full-resolution DV-AVI files, you will quickly max out. I
would
be willing to purchase a domain name and piont it to your DNS servers, if
applicable.

Taky,

I just sent a paypal donation of $3. It is not much, but if everyone
sends
a few bucks here and there it will help to keep such a needed website up
and
running. I have looked at the catalogs of stock video footage companies
and
they charge tremendous amounts of money just for a simple video clip.
Thank
you for putting up this wonderful website. Who knows it might kind of go
the same route as music file sharing except we don't have to worry about
copyrights like you do with music.

When we submit free video clips, how can we insure that they are copyright
free, and royalty free so that others will have confidence in using the
video clips or the music sound files?

I live here in San Antonio, Texas...I can put up some video clips of the
Alamo, The riverwalk, the missions, Lackland Air Force Base, Canyon Lake,
The Texas Hill country.

I am a musician, I could also put up some mp3 files of copyright free
music
(instrumentals) that I make with my Yamaha W7 synthesizer.

Okay, I did it. I created a quick and dirty site for everybody to
download
free clips. These clips are created by me in events (mostly weddings). You
are free to use these clips.

  http://taky.gotdns.com/

I will also open the site for other users to upload clips to share with
everybody.

  Any comment welcome.

Trading video clips... I'm in Melbourne, Australia. So let me know if
anyone's interested in getting stuff from "down under", and I'll see
what I
  can grab together.
