Hi, Sune,
The HDV camcorders from Sony shoot DVCam as well if you'd rather not
shoot HDV. Or the camera will down-convert HDV footage to SD when you
capture via Firewire, so you can have both HDV and SD in the same
recording. My experience with the HVR-A1U is that its HDV footage
looks beautiful in both HD and SD, but you're right about low-light
limitations -- you won't be shooting on dim streets at night. I've
been told by owners that the FX1 or Z1U is much better for low light.
In any case, don't give up on HDV because it's compressed, unlike
full-on HD. The HD image is still spectacular, and you can always get
excellent SD video from it if you need it.
