Thank you very much Julian for describing this in such detail. I'd also like to thank Mike Boom. All your input is greatly appreciated. I am now leaning more and more towards HDV. I understand now that the HD part of the cameras are not the selling point. I really need true 16:9 and DVCam. Your point about BBC going for Sony HDV is quite interesting, because NRK (the Norwegian equivalent) have done the same. They've bought a bunch of the top of the line Sony HDV. But I am having problems finding out information on the different Sony HDV cameras. http://www.globalmediapro.com/do/product/1236/ stocks Sony HVR-Z1 HDV but I can only find HCR-Z1E in a Norwegian webshop. The pricedifference is utterly insane. I'd pay £2500 from www.globalmediapro.com and £4400 from my local store over here (if it is the same camera..) www.sony.com is even more confusing. I could only find HDR-FX1. So what model would be recommended? And do you have any experience with GlobalMediaPro Julian? It's situated in London. A friend of mine bought his HDV from then and thus saved aprox 30% on the retail price. - www.dunderfilm.no [Julian wrote...] Sune, You raised a number of points. One reason why you are having difficulty finding details of the Z1E is that it is sold by Sony's professional (Broadcast) division whereas the FX1 is a consumer product and sold by the consumer division. They have different web sites. I am not familiar with Globalmedia pro but that price sounds extremely cheap. The best I found on a quick check was £2892 (www.videokit.co.uk) . VAT is extra but as you are outside the EU you should be able to reclaim that I think. Note that Sony professional equipment sold in the EU should have a 2 year (silver) warranty. If you are offered a product without that warranty you maybe dealing with a product which has not been purchased from Sony Broadcast UK. Globalmediapro is NOT an authorised SONY agent. I had never heard of the HCR Z1E until you mentioned it. As far as I can see it is the same as the HVR Z1E. I would be inclined to contact a Norwegian dealer and ask why there are two different names for it. It is possible that the HCR is the designation given to the camera when sold in Europe but outside the EU. Maybe check with Sony Norge. Mvh Julian Bristol, England Yahoo!
