Hey, I'll let others answer the edit/capture question, but I do want 
to mention the "logging".
Check with the station and make sure you won't be committing a firing 
offense by not logging the raw footage.
Lots of times this is to cover their butts legally, also they can use 
any footage you shoot for a story at a later time, whether it was 
aired or edited out.
Might be worth the effort to check on this first.
