What camcorder do you use? Originally you said you were using a Digital Video 
camera.

Any NLE editor would show it, as various utilities, like CatDV, do.

Also, QuickTime Player 6.0 had this feature. With QuickTime 7 you need the Pro 
version to be able to see it. And for some file formats (like mine 
DV/DVCPRO-NTSC) QT 7 Pro just doesn't show the datecode for unknown reasons.

You can even extract date/time and put it as subtitle to your DVD:

But again, these utilities do not support some file formats.
