If you had a couple of external firewire drives on your editing system,
would you expect a file copy from one to the other to change the data? A
camera to camera transfer by firewire is just copying ones and zeros and if
the cable is sound and the cameras are working properly nothing changes in
the process, with the possible exception of the timecode, which wouldn't be
classed as degredation.
