Fellow Adobe Premiere Users,
For several weeks, I've been troubleshooting a problem with my feature
length project. I thought I would do a knowledge transfer on the off chance
some
one else experiences this sort of thing some day.

Since early October, it’s been impossible to burn a DVD or render an
assembled AVI of the complete movie. This has been distressing since the movie
is
99% done lacking only for the mixing of the musical sound track.

Troubleshooting took the form of attempting to render an compilation AVI
file of the entire movie. Some eighteen minutes in there was a corrupt video
file. After solving that problem I would find later in the process I would
find
yet another corrupted file about sixty-three minutes into the movie.

The process of troubleshooting required that I isolate ten minute portions
of the movie in a troubleshooting sequence and attempt an AVI render. When the
UNKNOWN COMPILE ERROR showed up, I would run the render again carefully
watching the frame count and by observing the frame count when the error again
appeared and logging it.

While the video frame rate NTSC is 30 frame rate, I shot the movie in a film
frame rate of 24frm/sec, a simple setting in the GL-2. By dividing the
frames rendered before the error by the the 24frm/sec, I was able to determine
how
many seconds into the render the error occurred. Then by carefully
translating the seconds into minutes and seconds, I was able to determine
which scene
sequence was corrupt.

By removing the segment and retrieving a clone scene from the scene archive,
I was able to repair the damage. In both cases the short scene clips were
heavily modified with Video Effects adjustments.

The movie is fine now. I have a full length rendering of it nicely saved as
my proof rendering. Now it’s time to get back on track and mix the sound
track and attempt to render a completed mixed proof.
