I'm out of the woods now, thanks to updating my nVidia drivers and then
fiddling with video card settings while watching a wmv file. I was
surprised to be able to make adjustments to brightness, contrast, etc on
the fly, as an archived post elsewhere suggested, but it worked and now I'm
able to edit with full hardware acceleration, as it should be.
