Make sure your system is set up properly with audio I/O's configured, levels of sound card devices set properly and not muted; in Preferences>Audio, make sure "play audio while scrubbing" is turned on; make sure "show waveform" is selected in the audio track's tab icons; make sure you're hearing audio as you play the timeline. Then, with all this functioning, you both hear audio and see the waveform making it easy to cut/edit accurately.
If you happen to be editing P2 MXF footage with 4-channel mono audio from the Panasonic HVX200, there is a small challenge in that if your external mic was plugged into input 2 and other tracks contain no audio, the default active track 1 is what plays when scrubbing video in the source window.....you have to manually tell the source viewer to play track 2. It's a pain, but is one small source of "not hearing your audio" in a unique situation. But then, you said "timeline" so this probably doesn't apply. I am new to PP2.. how do I trim a clip on the timeline and HEAR the sound of that clip? I need to make edits that require precision audio bites and am only guessing... my previous NLE trimmed and I could hear all the sound.
