I've answered my own question. When my Wildpresenter Pro froze while
importing a video file, twice in a row, I rebooted, and decided to check
the defrag situation. After the reboot XP is happy to defrag the external
drives. Just another MS "feature" I guess.

I recently replaced my edit system with an Intel core 2 duo proc on an Asus
P5W-DH Deluxe mobo, running XP Pro SP2. I use three drives for editing, two
of which are external firewire LaCie units. My old system ran Win2KPro,
using the same external drives. The new system sees these drives in the
defrag window but won't defrag them. Won't even analyze them. This is a
problem in the near term. Any suggestions?
