Does that recompress or transcode the video? You
definitely don't want that to happen to the already
lossy compressed DVD video!

All you need to do is demultiplex (demux) the .M2V
MPEG2 video stream and the .PCM or .AC3 audio streams
from the .VOB files.

Look for a program called SmartRipper. Many DVDs
don't 'package' the video programs into groups in
the VOBs, so just directly demuxing gets you video
that jumps around or has all the programs or tracks
strung together. Probably not an issue if you're
wanting to do edits to a DVD you authored.

SmartRipper uses the .IFO files to find the parts
of the specific program you want, then it pulls them
all out and strings them together in correct order
into a new VOB set on your hard drive.

Then you can demux the streams. Some VOB apps will do
a demux/mux operation so you end up with an .MPG
file that has both video and audio streams together.
That's useful for editing apps that can't handle
MPEG2 video without an embedded audio stream.

Finding a VOB demuxer is as easy as searching for

VOB demux

with any search engine.

Many video apps (like ones from Tsunami) will
automatically select the .PCM or .AC3 file with the
same name as the .M2V file when it's opened.

Finally, videohelp.com is a very good site for
resources and information for all this stuff. ;)

For Adobe Premiere help, this list seems to be pretty
decent... ;)
