once every year I have to do a similar job:
burning names ant technical data into several hundred video clips.

he solution I found is the free program "virtualdub"
with the "avi subtitler" plugin.

once you have prepared the text file in the proper format, it works great.
(if you need help, mail directly and I send you an example file)
