Thanks Mike, but I don't think this is the problem. 
 
Although I have filmed in HD I am trying to capture and edit only in SD at
the moment. (the final production is to be distributed around my company on
a standard DVD and includes quite a lot of already shot SD material).
 
I have set the camera to down convert, and everything is fine if I just
capture the video manually - it is only when I use batch capture that the
problem occurs. I wonder of there is some form of bug in Premier or if I
have not actually set the camera up properly (The instructions for setting
the camera seem rather complex!).
 
Any further ideas would be appreciated.
