things are getting complicated now.

this time it looks like a hardware problem to me.

when you are digitizing vhs tape, what kind of vhs player are you using?

usually you have to play pal on a pal player and ntsc on a ntsc player.

there are only a few true professional ($$$) multiformat players around, but
all of the consumer players that claim to be multiformat do only half of the
conversion:

a "multiformat" player in a pal country will translate the size and color
coding of a ntsc tape, but will still play 30 frames/sec.

tv sets and monitors are rather tolerant, so you will be able to see the movie
on screen, but the signal will NOT BE RECORDABLE.

so if you play the "wrong" system, the output of your vhs player will be
somewhere inbetween pal and ntsc, and that might confuse the capturing, as you
describe it.

I live in a pal country and have experienced the same problems.

so when I was in the us. the last time, I bought a 39$ ntsc vhs player and now
capturing ntsc tapes works perfectly.
