My comment on Firewire and USB was based on FW400.

A FW800 is supposed to realise 100MB/S transfer speed but in practice this is 
not achieved. Even if it was, it's still nowhere near the speed of a properly 
configured internal SATAII HDD. It's only marginally better than an 80GB IDE 
HDD.

But to answer your question, yes you can add either a PCI or PCIe FW800 to most 
Windows and Linux PCs and caddies are available to take a HDD.

Also if data access time is >9mS you may end up dropping frames as PPro isn't 
going to wait around for the HDD to catch up..
